If you are reading this and have 1st hand experience, or perhaps know anyone who have tried stem cell therapy for meniscus injuries please let me know.
For years now I've had meniscus related injuries. Basically, my right knee was scoped in 2012, it was a degenerative meniscus tear on the medial side. I am somewhat flat-footed and been running since 1997. Bad genes? Lack of correction (insoles)? Unfortunate step that I can't pin-point to?
Then in 2017 I started having pain in my left knee. It turned out to be the flap-type meniscal injury. Had to get that one scoped, too.
At least I've got both fixed now, right?
Not too fast. In 2018, just after Xterra Lake Tahoe my right knee started to bother me again. The doc said I should try physical therapy first before allowing me to get an MRI. I knew what was happening but I had no choice. After 2 months of no improvement it was finally revealed that I again have some level of meniscal tear in my right knee and a condition that is like arthritis. I have trouble getting up, am sore after running but not necessarily during.
The doc thinks I should stop running altogether and focus on other non weight bearing activities such as cycling and swimming. I mean that's great but I just don't want to give up on racing yet.
I found some stuff about stem cell therapy (also called regenerative therapy, brand name as Regenexx).
Basically I was just wondering if anyone had any luck with it or heard anything good or bad about this type of treatment. I had no luck finding anything promising.
Thanks peeps!
